" Guatemala City, have a fondness most of the country, is built on high point of limestone formations. This sinkhole is not a show sequel of the storm. It takes many years for douse to enter the fissures and undergorund inwards systems. Water slowly erodes the limestone (especially acid rain) and the fissures / caves expand.
Once they get too overwhelmingly to sustenance the arise soils, bingo, they sink. So while the hurricane may have added enough ballast to the sully layer to give rise to the collapse, all the contaminate went into the caves and fissures in a massive sludge flow. Now a smart regulation would capitalize on this event to create a visitor attraction.
Imagine a park / information exhibit over this hole with rides entrancing you to the bottom. Lots of lettuce to be made there.
