Wendie Malick ("Just Shoot Me!," "Frasier") and Charles Shaughnessy ("The Nanny," "Saints & Sinners") co-star in the reading as, respectively, Helen Gahagan Douglas and Melvyn Douglas, with Patrick Breen as Richard Nixon and Michael Dutra as JFK and LBJ. The evening, which benefits The Nation Magazine, will begin at 6 PM with a screening of the vice-presidential debates followed by the performance. Katrina vanden Heuvel hosts the fundraiser.
A panel bull session and a reaction in The Landmark Wine Bar will follow the reading. Don't Blame Me , according to converging notes, "follows Helen from an entitled Republican and top devise actress to an incorruptible progressive congresswoman who stood for education, internationalism, feminism and integration and in the end to the 1950 Senate horse-race where Nixon's anti-Communist/anti-Semitic vilify drive ended her civil career." Tickets, priced $100, can be purchased by visiting tickets.landmarktheatres.com or by trade (310) 470-0492.
The Landmark is located at 10850 West Pico Blvd. in West Los Angeles, CA.
