Douglas High School scholarly crew heads to nationals




Douglas High School seniors Shane Wigton, Bonnie Slocum, Gene Lengdorfer, Jesus Palma, Aaron Wennhold and tutor Larry Lippmann. Shannon Litz Five members of the Douglas High School scholastic side will be heading to Kansas City during the continue week in June for the Skills USA federal examine spin competition. “It’s amicable of twin ‘Jeopardy,’ where you have to kick in, and it’s not only understanding but speed,” said Douglas High math instructor and erudite school Larry Lippmann. “The tournament will be stiff; however, I’m convinced that our very strong party will make Douglas High School proud.” This year, the conjectural team, which has about 15 members total, secured the second-place smudge in the Nevada Academic League.



They also took seventh out of 32 teams in the regional National Science Bowl, not to name 23rd post out of 695 schools in the Knowledge Master Open in December. But it was five members’ first-place take first prize at the Nevada Skills USA question dish in April that propelled the students near the native stage. “We’ve had a very well-fixed year,” said Lippmann. “This will be the first off spell we’ll have traveled nationally.” The students were cool about their chances. “I’m exceedingly unsure what it’s prospering to be like,” said 17-year-old ranking Shane Wigton. “But we did well at the condition competition, and I cogitate we’ll still be able to do well and persevere some victories.” Team members agreed that one case neighbourhood they emergency to moil on is current events.
