Morehead University. NCAA Southeast: UCLA overcomes tardily tizzy by Michigan State Know.

UCLA kept clanking self-governed throws, Michigan State kept draining 3-pointers. It turned a hidden destroy into a nailbiter. In the end, the Bruins escaped. Barely.

Tyler Honeycutt and Malcolm Lee scored 16 points apiece and seventh-seeded UCLA held off a delayed comeback by the 10th-seeded Spartans 78-76 in the Southeast regional of the NCAA tournament. The Bruins (23-10) won without considering missing 17 available throws, nine of them in the irrefutable 3:40 while the Spartans were making a barrage of 3-pointers to get back into the game. They advanced to a third-round matchup against No. 2 successors Florida, which surpass 15th-seeded UC Santa Barbara.

"This is not the maiden control that we've had a pilot evaporate," UCLA motor coach Ben Howland said. "We're now 21-0, though, whenever we get a 10-point premier or more, and that's been good. You know, we've played a lot of strict games, and high water we've found a mode to glean more than we've lost, and that's been big for us." UCLA led 42-24 at the half and by as many as 23 in the b half before nearly letting the trick sprout away against a yoke hoping to draw it to a third consecutive Final Four.

The Bruins were 30 of 47 from the smelly parade and made only two catch goals over the closing eight minutes.
